On Religion, Public Policy, and Obama

An interesting post on Obama’s position on separation of church and state. (via rodmitch)

The problem I am pointing to, however, is […] a simple problem that afflicts us all: people with any kind of technical knowledge of a domain tend to get hopelessly (and unwittingly) stuck in a frame of reference that relates to their view of the issue, and their trade’s technical parlance, not that of the ordinary humans with whom they so signally fail to engage.

This is Ruby, our West Highland White Terrier. Usually she’s a lot more rambunctious than she is in this picture — she’s either climbing up my legs so she can lick my face or she’s chewing on everything in sight.

Moving once again

After six months together in Bloomington, Ashley and I are pulling up our roots again and moving back to the Bluegrass state. IU’s been fun, but my master’s degree is nearly finished now (with only an internship to go) and I’ll be glad to be moving on to the next part of my life.

We’ve spent the last week or so packing up everything in the apartment. Since I started college in 2001 I haven’t lived in one place for longer than 12 months — but this is the first time that I’ve moved at the same time as someone else, and I never realized how much stuff Ashley and I have until I saw the mountain of boxes we made in the living room.

So I’m saying goodbye to one state, and hello to another. I’ll also be taking a break from doing anything important while my wife and I go down to Florida for a week. After that, it will be good to be back in Kentucky, to be working again, and to get to work building my first adult home that will last longer than a year. I can’t wait.

Ashley and I are packing up for our big move — and we just got some new pictures of our dog from the breeder. One more week to go!

You know, basically it’s a Google. What you can find out now on the Internet — it’s remarkable.

John McCain, who is using Google to vet VP candidates. The article states that “McCain, 71, has faced high scrutiny in his search because of his age.”
